Trails Update/Trail Report

The Wildwood to McMillan St. Trail project was approved by Marshfield City Council. They also approved installing sidewalks on both sides of Sycamore St. from Adler to Fifth St.

The Lincoln Avenue project has begun. When completed it will include bike lanes from 14th St. to 5th St.

There has been some work done along the Wildwood Station Trail to control the Buckthorn growth. It was noted that when it was removed there was no native plant life on the ground. No wildflowers or small trees. Ways to educate the public about the dangers of invasive species to the trails was discussed. (Buckthorn is an invasive plant that is known to choke out other growth. For more information you can visit the Wisconsin DNR website at www.dnr.state.wi.us. Go to “Natural Resources,” then “Invasive Species,” “Species Information – Plants,” and on the chart – “Common buckthorn.”)

The Hewitt Trails group is looking forward to work on both ends of their trail –toward Marshfield at Stadt Road and toward the concession stand at the Yellowstone Park. They are very hopeful of receiving two grants to help with these projects.

The Grace Nycz Memorial Trail at Washington School is under construction. It should be finished very soon.
