Marshfield Area Friends of the Trails

Minutes of the meeting of April 1, 2009, at the Senior Center at 7 p.m. recorded by Sandy Egstad.

President Greg Hesch called meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Deb E. moved and Dan L. seconded to approve the minutes of March 4, 2009. Motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report

Presented by Kent Mueller. Total bank accounts: $42,508.55 Liability accounts for restricted donations for signs, Weber Park and Washington School Trail: $200.00, $76.95 and $2,556.50 respectively for a total Liability accounts of $2,833.45 for an overall balance of $ 39,675.10 as of February 28, 2009. Approval moved by LeRoy E.. and Dan L.; report approved. Comment was made that more money has been added to the Washington Trail Fund in memory of Grace Nycz. The Community Foundation reports our balance quarterly so it does not yet appear in the treasurer’s report.
Administrative Report


Events Discussed

The Children’s Festival for the Tiny Tigers’ Center will be held on April 16. We have been invited to be present at the Sport’s Den booth. Other upcoming events are the Bike Rodeo in May including bike rides for the Children’s Miracle Network and The Fall Maple Festival with the Cranberry Bike Ride for Ronald McDonald House.

Trails Update/Trail Report

Spring tree planting will take place in April. Trees are on order – 800 plus 200 from the city and westside wood lot owners. Saturdays, April 25 and May 2 are planting dates. There will be planting in Weber Park and smaller plantings on the Arboretum Connector Trail and the Wildwood Station Trail. Some Buckthorn control will also be done.
Concern was expressed about people putting lawn clippings, leaves, etc. alongside the trails. Smell is a problem as is the killing off of wild flowers.
The dip and fence on the Adler Lincoln Trail will be taken care by the city.

Updates

Deb will check into prices for hats and t shirts with emblems to identify members/workers for Friends of the Trails.
Website design was discussed. Greg and Sandy will meet with Mr. Treankler’s class to discuss it.
Something to control traffic for safety at the Lincoln Adler intersection is still being discussed at the city level.

Other Business
Trails clean up day will be the first Saturday of May in the morning.
Kent will look into animal waste bags to be placec along the trails.
